Men’s Timberwolves Basketball team looking to build off historic season

PRINCE GEORGE – The UNBC Men’s Timberwolves Basketball Team is coming off its greatest finish in school history, and the team is looking forward to hitting the court again and building off of last year’s success.

“Our team is really young right now, but we’re still super motivated to have the same season as last year, that was a great finish of the season last year, and we’re excited to get the new season, try to repeat the same season as last year,” said third year small forward Evgeny Baukin.

The young roster features eight rookies and only two fourth-year players, so there will be plenty of new faces. While a change that big will take a bit of getting used to, Baukin says the team is already gelling well in practices.

“We have the same interests, same team bonding, we have great team chemistry,” he said.

The Timberwolves will have a chance to get some real game action in this weekend, as the team is preparing for a trio of pre-season games against McMaster University, Toronto Metropolitan University, and Mohawk College. Isaiah Bias is one of the rookies looking to make his mark, and he’s looking forward to contributing towards what will hopefully be another great season.

“Just anything that the team needs, energy, just being able to be there for them and anything they need,” Bias said, on what he hopes to bring to the team.

Bias, alongside his fellow rookies, has had to adjust to a higher level of play and will be tested on the court for the start of the preseason, but he’s confident he has what it takes. There’s no doubt there will be a learning curve to start, but he says he can’t wait to get on the court.

“Obviously there’s been a lot of ups and downs, first year, there’s a lot of things that need adjusting to. But for me, my motto is to win the day. So just to be able to stack up those days within the rest of this time, I’ll get better,” he said.

The Timberwolves first regular season game will be on November 1 against the UBC Okanagan Heat.
