PRINCE GEORGE— The UNBC Women’s Soccer Team wrapped up their penultimate weekend at Masich Place Stadium with a 1-0 defeat to the Mount Royal Cougars.

Despite the loss, goaltender Brityn Hinsche shone bright once again, stopping at least 11 shots for the fourth time this season.

“I felt like had a really good game. I was getting to all the balls that I’ve never really got to before,” said Hinsche postgame. “I was getting full extension, which is something I’ve been working on, and I’m just really happy with my performance.”

While the team fell just short on snapping their five-game losing skid, fifth year forward Claire Turner see’s the improvement in the squads mentality.

“Just intensity, mindset and deciding to win those small individual battles, to win them for yourself of course, but then for your team at the end of the day. The grit is growing a lot and so is the to want to win,” said Turner after her 61st match for the UNBC.

The program’s fifth all-time goalscorer joined an exclusive club on the weekend of players to suit up for at least 60 matches as Timberwolf.

With only two weekends left in their 2024 campaign, the veteran wants to leave her team with an impact that goes beyond just the game on the pitch.

“Try to enjoy every moment before those games, during, and after the game, regardless of the score. I’m just here to make lifelong friends, lifelong memories, and trying to absorb every second.”

Turner will play her final weekend at Masich Place Stadium next week against the the undefeated Pacific Division leaders, the UBC Thunderbirds.
