Mother-son Mounties pair up for bucket-list shift
PRINCE GEORGE – 38 year RCMP Corporal Madonna Saunderson is preparing for retirement, but before she hangs up the spurs she’s fulfilling one last career bucket list-item.
“The last of my career bucket list is to work a shift with my son,” Saunderson explained.
Originally from Newfoundland, Saunderson had an impressive RCMP career dating from her first day in 1986. While her career would both start and end in Prince George, he spent time at Fraser Lake in between, where she became the first female police officer to be posted in that detachment. After 30 years of shift work, she moved into her current role as the Media Relations Officer for North District.
In 2023, her son John Saunderson followed in his mother’s footsteps and left for depot in Regina, Saskatchewan, to become a Mountie as well. It wasn’t long until he began his career in Terrace, B.C., as he began his career in January of 2024.
