Conservative candidate Kiel Giddens wins Prince George-Mackenzie riding

PRINCE GEORGE-MACKENZIE – CKPG News is declaring BC Conservative candidate Kiel Giddens the winner of the Prince George-Mackenzie riding.

UPDATE: 9:27 p.m.

• Kiel Giddens, Conservative: 8,696, 61.60%
• Shar McCrory, NDP: 4,026, 27.65%
• James Steidle, Green: 1,206, 8.28%
• Rachel Weber. Independent: 360, 2.47%

As of 8:44 p.m., Giddens earned 61.31% of the votes, beating out runner up BC NDP candidate Shar McCrory. The full numbers are as follows:

“Prince George-Mackenzie has so many opportunities and the fact we’re going to have a strong conservative voice here in BC means we’re going to remind Victoria that the north matters,” Giddens said.

Giddens said he’s looking forward to bringing issues like healthcare and forestry to the forefront of the provincial legislature.

“We need to bring those issues and those matters to Victoria,” he said.

Following a departure from the BC United Party, Giddens has been chosen as the Conservative Candidate, replacing Rachel Weber. Giddens will now prepare to serve as MLA for the first time in his political career.

Giddens added he wanted to thank McCrory and Steidle for putting their names forward in the vote and contributing to the democratic process.
