PRINCE GEORGE— The Spruce Kings and UNBC basketball squads are teaming up this weekend. The Timberwolves and other UNBC students will be in attendance for game two of the Kings back-to-back against the Victoria Grizzlies, while the hockey team will be at the Northern Sport Centre to bring the energy to UNBC’s home opening doubleheader.

“It’s awesome, I think it just creates a great energy at either game that you’re going to. It’s great that we’re supporting each other and it creates a great community environment,” said Spruce Kings forward Lucas Veilleux this week.

“It’s good for the Spruce Kings and UNBC, for athletes to support each other and create a strong community for years to come,” said rookie guard Marcus Wilson before his teams season opening weekend.

While it helps bring more support to the organizations, the Spruce Kings players are no stranger to the game of basketball.

“The boys on the team love basketball. We love playing basketball and playing NBA 2K every night, so it’ll be nice to get out and watch a game,” said Kings defenceman Trent Ballentyne.

The Spruce Kings will be looking to build off of grabbing points in three of their past five matches, while UNBC will hope to start their seasons off strong.

“We’re excited to have everyone out. I think the tailgate will be really great and it’ll be great just to have a lot of energy in the building,” said third year wing Amrit Manak. “We’re just excited to get some dubs (wins) this weekend.”
