PRINCE GEORGE— The Caledonia Nordic Ski Club (CNSC) has hosted many national and international competitions over the years, from the 2022 Canadian Biathlon Championships to the 2024 FIS Para Biathlon World Championships and many more. Now, they are less than two months away from another.

“Caledonia is going to be hosting an IBU (International Biathlon Union) regional race event in January from the third to the seventh. We’re also going to be the selection trials for Team Canada, for the World Youth and Junior Championships,” said Aaron Sinclair, the Competition Lead of the event, on Saturday. “It’ll be a big event. We’ll have 100 to 150 of the best athletes in Canada aged 17 and older, here, competing for the opportunity to represent Team Canada on the world stage.”

Along with the event, the CNSC also has programs for local athletes.

“For biathlon, we have a bears program, which is kind of our younger athletes, and then we have juniors that are like 13, 14, and seniors are 15 to 18. Then new this year, we actually have a varsity program, which we have started in partnership with UNBC, said Head Coach of CNSC, Ali Cadell.

The competition will allow local athletes to compete on their home course as well as showcase the ski club on a national level.

“It just goes to show how great of a facility we are. There’s not that many facilities in Canada that are capable of hosting other events like this,” said Sinclair on what CNSC offers.
