Cougars look to bounce back in final home games of 2024

PRINCE GEORGE— The Cougars enter their final home weekend of the calendar year coming off a tough stretch of games. They’ve lost four of their last five and are hoping to snap a three game losing skid with a couple of favourable match-ups this weekend, hosting the Regina Pats and Kamloops Blazers.

“We wanted to readdress where we were as a group. I think we started in our own zone and have some details we want to collectively clean up. Then making sure we have the right level of emotion, from start to finish. That’s something we have to get a little bit better at, as we seem to have one period where we don’t maintain that level of intensity and we know we can improve upon that,” said Cougars Associate Coach Jim Playfair on what they focused on through practice this week.

On the bright side, the adversity the team’s facing could be valuable experience as the games become more important down the stretch.

“That could be huge for our group. To go through that right now and have that experience, especially with a lot of the young guys we have in the room. I think It’ll be really helpful for us down the road,” said forward Terik Parascak on the benefits that could come out of the teams struggles.

The Cats play Regina on Friday night and wrap up with their annual Teddy Bear Toss game on Saturday. The 2024 finale at the CN Centre is against the Kamloops Blazers who began the teddy bear toss tradition back in 1993.
