Respite from rain expected as forecast calls for mainly sunny Sunday in Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE — There should be some respite from the rain in the Prince George area later today, Dec. 7.

Environment Canada says about 17.4 mm of precipitation fell through the course of the day Friday, with showers expected to end by late this afternoon.

Data from the weather agency shows 58.5 mm of precipitation has fallen between Dec. 1 and 6 this year, more than double the 26.3 mm that fell in November.

While daytime high temperatures should hover around the 4 C mark Saturday, the cloudy conditions are expected to persist with temperatures dropping to the freezing mark this afternoon, which could make for some slick driving conditions.

Drive BC warning people about slippery sections on Highway 97 north and south of Prince George and on Highway 16 between McBride and Bednesti Lake. East of McBride, there is a winter storm warning on the Trans-Canada between Tête Jaune Cache and the Alberta Border.

Partly cloudy skies are expected to stick around this evening in Prince George, according to the Environment Canada forecast, which is calling for a low -4 C Saturday night and a wind chill of -6 C overnight.

It’s expected to be mainly sunny on Sunday, though wind chill values will hover around -6 C in the morning.
