PRINCE GEORGE — One man is in hospital with severe but non-life-threatening injuries following a shooting Sunday afternoon (Dec.8) in Prince George.

Prince George RCMP say the shooting occurred just before 3:30 p.m. on the 1900-block of Ross Crescent.

“Police officers immediately flooded the area where witnesses were quick to point out the suspect, who was leaving the area on foot. The suspect was arrested by police less than 10 minutes after the initial report was received by police,” say Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.

With the shooting occurring on a weekend, close to a high school and a park and in a residential neighbourhood, Cooper says RCMP is pleased with the “rapid response to this incident,” calling it “a great example of our frontline police officers’ dedication to public safety.”

The suspect has been identified as 38-year-old Dustin Charles Burgess. Burgess will remain in custody until his next court appearance. He’s been charged with aggravated assault, discharge of a firearm with intent, possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, and possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized.

Cooper says investigators believe this to be a targeted incident with no increased risk to the public.
