UNBC goalkeeper Logan Pierce reflects on record breaking rookie season

PRINCE GEORGE— Despite a developmental season for the UNBC men’s soccer team, Logan Pierce had an incredible rookie year.

The Campbell River native produced 94 saves, breaking the previous Canada West single season save record. Pierce credits plenty of his early success to his predecessor.

“Last year seeing Daniel Zadravec play and him having set the previous record, I know that I aspired to sort of fill his shoes. I’ve had a lot of chats with him and he’s a really helped me grow to where I need to be,” said Pierce on the mentorship from UNBC’s previous starting goalie, Daniel Zadravec.

While his abilities were on full display this season, the team knew what he could bring to the table when they signed him in March of last year.

“Right away you could see he had the tools to really become a fantastic goalkeeper. He’s got the size, the athletic ability, the awareness and there were some things he had to refine for sure, but the tools were there. We knew that given the time, the opportunity and the growth, he would become a fantastic goalkeeper,” said Timberwolves Assistant Coach, Francesco Bartolillo.

Pierce had a number of impressive performances throughout the season, but in reflecting on his rookie campaign, one game stood out above the rest.

“That first UVic game, my first ever game at Masich. That the crowd was electric for our home opener. It was a 0-0 draw against UVic, my family from Campbell River were up there and all my friends were in the stands. That game really fun,” said Pierce on his first home game as a Timberwolf.
