PRINCE GEORGE— Carter Thomas is a grade five student who chooses to spends some of his evenings cooking food for people on the street. Not just to help those less fortunate but to also see his own family who are experiencing homelessness.

“I just wanted to do this for the homeless so I can actually see my mom and dad,” explains Carter.

Carter currently lives with his grandmother who helps him with his charity. She says he has always wanted to help others.

“Whenever we go to McDonald’s or whatever, he’d see a person begging for food or money,” says Carter’s grandmother, Leslie Thomas. “And since he was five, he always wanted to help other people.”

Through getting donations from family friends, Thomas raised $230 which is all going to make meals for those who need them.

“He’s such an inspiration,” adds Leslie. “He shows me what a good heart can do. And, to have this much support for him means a lot.”

When Carter goes to hand out the food with his younger brother Chase, their first stop is their Mom and Dad. Carter’s father Craig recently got back from Calgary where he was working on overcoming his addiction. While Craig has a long road ahead he is working to improve.

Channelling his trauma into charity, Carter will continue to hand out food to those going through the same experience as his own parents.
