UHNBC secures funding for new medical imaging machine

PRINCE GEORGE—The Fraser-Fort George Regional Hospital District approved 1.1 million dollars in funding to replace a nuclear medicine imaging device at UHNBC.The name of the machine is Nuclear Medicine Hawkeye and costs 2.75 million dollars. The Regional Hospital Board contributed 40 per cent of the total amount to the purchase.

“The Regional Hospital District funds a variety of different projects for health care capital investments in our region,” says Kyle Sampson, the Vice-Chair of the Fraser-Fort George Regional Hospital Board. “I think it’s really important to note that this is a unique thing in British Columbia where the Province requires local government to requisition those tax dollars to use them towards health care.”

The Nuclear Medicine Hawkeye machine is a CT scanner that allows healthcare professionals to capture images inside the body.
