PRINCE GEORGE— The Cougars hit the CN Centre ice with a couple of their trade deadline acquisitions hitting the home ice for their first practice in Prince George.

The Cats acquired forward Ben Riche from the Saskatoon Blades who leads the team in goals (25) and points (57), and is top ten in the league scoring as well.

“It was a bit of a whirlwind. We (Saskatoon Blades) got back to the hotel in Edmonton around one on the clock in the morning. That’s when I found out I was headed out here, and then I hopped on a plane around eight that next morning. Quick turnaround and obviously a little bit surprised, but very excited finding out I was coming to a strong team like this,” said Riche on how he found out the news that he was traded to the Cougars.

Prince George also picked up defenseman Aleksey Chichkin from the Regina Pats to bolster their back end.

“I was very excited. This is a team who’s won in the past few years, and especially this year, they’re going for a playoff run, so I’m definitely excited to be here,” said Chichkin on his reaction to being traded to the Cougars.

While Riche made his debut at home, scoring the game winner against the Giants, Chichkin will have to wait until next Friday (Jan. 24), to play his first home game at the CN Centre.
