Duchess Park Condors finish fourth in 3A girls basketball provincials

LANGLEY B.C. — The Duchess Park Condors will have to settle for a fourth place finish at the BC 3A Girls Basketball Provincial Championships this weekend.

The third-ranked Condors were beaten 68-57 by the fourth-ranked Vernon Panthers in the bronze medal game at the Langley Events Centre Saturday (March 1) afternoon. While the Condors went on a 10-0 run to end the game, their comeback bid ran out of time.

Zhahra Ngabo led the Condors with 13 points Saturday while Devyn Bjorn (12) and Maggie Malfair (10) also hit double digits.

The Condors were beaten 56-53 by the Sa-Hali Sabres from Kamloops in the semi-final. The second-ranked Sabres had to settle for silver after they were beaten 50-49 by top-ranked M.E.I. of Abbotsford.

Elsewhere, the College Heights Cougars were fell 70-60 by Mark R. Isfeld Secondary from Courtenay to finish sixth in the 16-team tournament.
