IIO investigating injuries of one person while in RCMP custody in Quesnel

QUESNEL — British Columbia’s police watchdog is investigating an incident in Quesnel where a person was injured in an RCMP detachment cell.
The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) says information provided by the affected person states that at about 2:30 p.m. on September 8, 2024, police responded to a call concerned for the person’s wellbeing at a home in Quesnel.
The affected person reports that they were injured while in RCMP custody that evening.
The IIO was notified of the incident on February 13, 2025 and has started an investigation. Investigative steps will confirm that the injuries meet the threshold of serious harm, as defined by the Police Act, and what connection, if any, they have to police actions or inaction.
