HIXON – The BC Wildfire Service have confirmed a wildfire is occurring near Hixon.

In a phone call with CKPG News, BC Wildfire Services Fire Information officer Karley Desrosiers has called the fire an “emerging incident,” adding there is not a lot of information available at the moment due to the evolving nature of the situation.

Desrosiers confirmed 19 wildfire personnel are on site battling the blaze, and helicopters and water tankers are also on the scene.

She added the warm and windy conditions today have definitely contributed to both the start and the spread of the fire, and because those conditions remain she says a spread is expected. However, she hopes the helicopters and tankers can help contain the spread.

Currently, there is no evacuation orders or alerts for Hixon. Desrosiers says the fire is currently spreading at a rank three on a six rank scale. A rank three fire is classified as a “moderately vigorous surface fire.”
