PRINCE GEORGE – Update: Wednesday’s Spirit Day raised a record $425,000 – the proceeds of which will go to enhancing healthcare coverage in the north. It tops last year’s previous high of $380,000.

Spirit Day was organized by The Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.

Earlier: The Legacy Park neighourhood in the Hart is home to the most recent Copper Falls home in what is truly a community effort.

“All the people who usually work on our homes contribute. Everybody stepped up,” says Jeff Stewart with Copper Falls. “There’s really nobody that doesn’t.”

Normally, the proceeds from the sale of the homes would got to the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation, but this year, Stewart and the legion of contractors decided to do something a little different, donating $80,000 to the Foundation for Spirit Day.

“We’re trying to bring the donation in a way that the community can jump on board and and have a piece of as well. Not everybody can swing a hammer on the house or contribute products to the house and be part of that donation. So this way we can use it to to bring people to the table and hopefully inspire some people to donate as well.”

Meanwhile, the phones were abuzz at the Prestige Hotel, as donations were flying in for the Foundation.

“It never ceases to amaze me the generosity of Prince George, the generosity of our citizens, and just how lucky we are, knowing that all of those dollars are staying here. They’re staying at UHNBC and they’re supporting our families and friends. I think that’s the biggest piece,” says Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation CEO Aimee Cassie.
