Lacrosse season is back

Prince George – The 2025 PGSLA lacrosse season is back with hits, goals and excitement. The league currently consists of four active teams including the Prince George Assault, Beswick Hilldebrand Lund Bandits, Mackenzie Conifex Lumberjacks, and the six time defending champion Scamp Transport Devils. A fifth team from Quesnel will sit out another season while it builds finances for the future.

Teams consist of players from young to old but there is still a need to fill out rosters as some teams are fielding considerably less players then their opponents. PGSLA commissioner Don Wittmeier says new players are joining but more are always needed and will benefit the overall product of the league.

“We have got a lot of new people playing the game, which is really nice to see. It’s competitive, you never know what’s going to happen and it depends on how many people show up on each team, that determines how the game is really going to go,” Wittmeier said.

The teams have players ranging from 16 to 55 years old, and Wittmeier says it’s not too late to join the fun.

“There’s three teams that are still looking for players, if you’re interested in playing Canada’s national sport,” he said.

The teams will battle through a twelve game schedule set to be completed on June 26. The playoffs will be held at Kin 1 with the top three team will making the playoffs and the highest ranked team receiving a bye to the final.

“For the month of May and June, we’re playing at Kopar on usually Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8:00 p.m., and the next three weekends we’re playing in McKenzie for Friday and Saturday games. In July we move into Kin Centre for the playoffs . And in August we’re hosting the B.C, Senior C Provincial Invitational Tournament here for the first time in six years from the eighth to the tenth,” he said.
