TERRACE: Northern B.C. man Clarence Abraham is embarking on a long walk across the province for a second year in a row to raise awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) and people.

“I’m still trying to make awareness for all the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and people, get more and more attention for these people. Because a lot of the families are still grieving, they lost loved ones,” Abraham said.

“I’m going to keep doing it until they get justice,” he continued.

Going from Burns Lake to Prince Rupert, Abraham has travelled around 350 kilometres of the 500 total kilometres, as he is currently in Terrace.

As he’s continued his walk, he says he’s met many people who have shared their stories with him, but encourages even more to come out and join him for parts of his walk. He says it’s really important to get as much community support as possible, as addressing the MMIW issue takes everyone.

“I’d really love to see people come out and talk to me, because that’s the only way we can get the word out to the people out there and tell them what’s going on. A lot of people are still not found, a lot of people have been murdered, so I need some people to come out that lost their loved ones and support our group and support our walk,” he said.

Abraham himself has personal experience with losing friends and loved ones, so the memories of everyone he’s known, and the countless others that have been lost over the decades, keeps him going on the walk even during the difficult days.

“The people, the loved ones that we lost, I just think about them and keep walking. I just want to get the message out and I keep that in my mind,” he said.

Abraham added he is incredibly grateful to all who have supported him on his walk, whether it be people that have joined his walk or have provided supplies and donations, and hopes to continue seeing more people as his walk continues.
