Premier “very enthusiastic backer” of 2030 Special Olympics National Summer Games

PRINCE GEORGE – Even though the 2025 Special Olympics BC Summer Games just wrapped up, the City already is moving straight into preparing for the chance to host the 2030 Special Olympics National Summer Games. It would bring an estimated $8 million in economic impact for the City, as well as 1700 visitors and a lot of excitement. And you can count Premier David Eby as one of many who would love to see the games in Prince George.

“To have the 2030 National Special Olympics here would be a great honour for British Columbia. It would be wonderful for the local economy here in Prince George, and it’d be great for the economy provincially. But most importantly, it’s a celebration that makes everybody feel good, lifts everybody’s spirit, and inspires so many people,” Eby said.

“For all of those reasons, I’m a very enthusiastic backer of the proposal, and look forward to seeing how the province can help out,” he continued.

Eby added Prince George, and the province as a whole, has continued to build on its reputation as a fantastic host for big events like the National Games, so he is hoping that Prince George will be able to keep that going with yet another event that would bring thousands to the City.

“British Columbia is a wonderful place to host major events. We’ve got a long history of doing so, and in recent memory, of course the Olympics. We’ve got FIFA coming, we have hosted events large and small,” he added.

The next step for the City’s bid to host the National Games is welcoming the Special Olympics Canada representatives this October, and from there an official announcement will be made as to which city will host the games.
