National Police Federation criticizes investigation delays in Prince George case
PRINCE GEORGE — The president of the National Police Federation (NPF) says the length of time it took for the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) to recommend charges against a Prince George RCMP officer this week is unacceptable.
Brian Sauve says the organization supports transparent and thorough investigations into police conduct but argues the four years it took to recommend charges for the incident that occurred near the North Starr Inn during the spring of 2021 is falling far short of what police officers and the public deserves.
He adds that this is not an isolated occurrence but part of a broader pattern of delay that fails both officers and the public.
Sauve says we face yet another period of waiting, this time for the BC Public Service to decide how to proceed.
