TWolves men win, women lose Canada West soccer season openers

PRINCE GEORGE — The UNBC Timbervolves began the 2025 Canada West soccer season with a split against the TRU WolfPack Friday night (Aug. 22) in Prince George

The UNBC men struck twice in a two minute span late in the first half in a come from behind 2-1 win over the TRU WolfPack at Masich Place Stadium.

Koss Nystedt (in the 43rd minute) and Jamie Wildash-Chan (just before the halftime whistle) scored to erase a 1-0 WolfPack advantage. At the other end of the pitch, Logan Pierce, who played for Kamloops United in League1 BC, made five saves to help UNBC pick up the win.

Elsewhere, the TWolves women’s team was crushed 5-0 by the WolfPack to drop to 0-1. Esi Lufo led the way for TRU with two goals and an assist.

Johanna Rathke did all she could with nine saves for UNBC to pick up play of the game honours. Rathke, Maddy Heal, Laney Stewart, Boroka Peter and RJ Barfoot all made their Canada West debuts in Friday’s game.

The two teams will be back in action this Sunday (Aug. 24) afternoon with the women’s game scheduled for 12 noon and the men to follow at 2:30 p.m.
