Forecasted winds to increase Chilcotin-area fire activity, BCWS says
WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — The BC Wildfire Service is expecting an uptick in fire activity across the Chilcotin this weekend because of forecasted winds.
In a statement, it says sustained winds of 15 km/h with gusts up to 30 km/h are expected from the south-southwest in the western Chilcotin Fire Zone, and south-southeast in the eastern Chilcotin Fire Zone on Saturday (Sept. 13).
Temperatures Saturday are expected to reach 26 C to 28 C with relative humidity between 20 and 25 per cent.
The BC Wildfire Service also notes that winds Sunday could reach 40 km/h from the west-northwest, though temperatures are expected to drop to around 16 C to 19 C, with relative humidity expected to be between 40 and 50 per cent.
