Williams Lake emergency room closed for second time this weekend

WILLIAMS LAKE — Residents in the Williams Lake area are without emergency room coverage for the second time this weekend.

Interior Health says the ER at the Cariboo Memorial Hospital will be closed until 1:30 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 5). It announced the “immediate” closure of the facility in a statement issued just before 9:00 a.m. Sunday.

People in the area in need of emergency care are being told to head to 100 Mile District General Hospital.

“All other inpatient services will continue at Cariboo Memorial Hospital,” Interior Health said.

This is the third closure of the Cariboo Memorial Hospital’s emergency room this year. The ER was also closed for around 12 hours yesterday.

As has been the case during past emergency room closures, Interior Health said people should call 9-1-1 if they need emergency care, or HealthLink BC at 8-1-1 if they aren’t sure if they need to head to the emergency room.
