PRINCE GEORGE – Prince George boxers are hard at work preparing for “Night of the War Dogs,” which will be the city’s first olympic style Amateur boxing-only event in more than ten years.

“We’re super excited to show Prince George the War Dogs. Prince George has amazing sports teams, you got the Prince George Cougars, you have the Prince George Spruce Kings, you have the (UNBC) Timberwolves. And now we want to show Prince George they got a new team here, the Inner City War Dogs,” said Kenny Lally, owner of the Inner City boxing gym.

The Night of the War Dogs will take place on October 25 at the Inner City Boxing Gym, which is the same building as the Prince George Roll-a-Dome. Fights start at 7:00 p.m., with doors opening at 6:00.

“These kids have put the work in, and it’s the least I can do for them. Put on a cool show for them to showcase their skills,” Lally said.

The War Dogs had great success at a recent event, with seven of nine fighters winning their respective categories in Chilliwack, so it’s a program that knows how to win and is excited to show off their skills for a home crowd.

“These kids have worked so hard, they deserve this. Especially fighting in your hometown, it’s a whole different animal for sure,” Lally said.

As for the fighters themselves, they’re even more pumped up than usual, as it will be their first time fighting in their own gym.

“My friends and family get to see me in the ring, see me showcasing my skills. I’m really excited, I’m a bit nervous, of course, but kind of way more excited. I’m super stoked for it,” said War Dog Canaan Woodrow.

“It’s going to be an awesome opportunity for me to represent my people, to represent Inner City. What I want to do is I just want to show that it is possible, that native people can do it, that we have. We can do it, you know what I mean? And that’s what I want to do, I’m training every single day to do that,” added Thunder Innis, a fellow War Dog who hails from the Ojibwe and Lakota Nations.

You can purchase tickets for $25 at the door, or $20 online.
