PRINCE GEORGE – This past summer the Lethbridge Hurricanes made the decision to waive 20 year old Kooper Gizowski focusing more on other overage players. Gizowski had no team to call home until he received a call from the Cougars in June. The Cougars have a reputation for finding veterans and helping them taking the next step. With the loss of scoring dynamo Riley Heidt the Cougars were looking for ways to replace scoring and Gizowski has answered the call from the moment he arrived.

“He fit into the dressing room, fit into the city and fit into what we want to have here is an identity for all of our players. I think on top of that he’s been really well committed to playing defensive hockey. He’s a goal scorer, obviously but he’s also been responsible without the puck. I think that’s the most important thing for our 20 year-olds is to lead the way and help our young kids understand how they have to play a 200ft game. Kooper’s certainly done that. He’s got 20 points and he’s playing well, playing smart and he’s been a real nice addition.” said associate coach Jim Playfair.

Powering the top line for the Cougars along with Lee Shergot and Jett Lajoie, Gizowski has enjoyed a sublime start to the season with 20 points in 10 games placing him second in league scoring. Gizowski’s hot start has him inching closer to his season high of 35 points which he achieved in 63 games last season with the Hurricanes and he is currently on pace to rack up a massive 136 points on the season.

“When I first came here everyone put me under their wing. I think a big thing is being a 20 year old you kind of know how to handle certain situations and you kind of understand it more than some people.I think it’s my teammates kind of helping me getting me those opportunities and I’m just, capitalizing on them.” said Gizowski.

Kooper Gizowski and the Prince George Cougars hit the ice again this weekend with games against the Seattle Thunderbirds on friday and saturday at the CN Centre.
