PRINCE GEORGE — Another defeat for the UNBC basketball teams as they couldn’t keep up pace with the powerhouse Victoria Vikes in Canada West action Saturday (Nov. 29) at the Northern Sports Centre.

The UNBC men wrapped up their slate of home games in the first half of the Canada West season with a 98-71 loss to the Vikes, who are defending national champions.

Danilo Gonzalez led the way for UNBC with a career-best 16 points, while Chris Ainsley and Justin Sunga added 10 points each. Isiah Bias led all players with six rebounds.

While UNBC trailed 56-37 at the half, the Vikes gradually pulled ahead in each of the final two quarters to improve to a Canada West-best 9-2 record.

The 1-10 UNBC women lost a nail-biter 67-62 to Victoria, as their second half comeback attempt fell short. Viktoriia Filatova led UNBC with a game-high 25 points along with six assists and four rebounds.

Trailing 40-22 at the half, the TWolves went on a 23-14 run in the third to bring the home crowd back into the game. They fought back to make it a two point game before Victoria pulled away and sealed the win, to move to 6-5 on the season.

The TWolves will travel south to play the TRU WolfPack in Kamloops on Friday (Dec. 5) to close out the first half of the Canada West season.

Their next game at home is scheduled for Jan. 15, 2026 against the UBC Thunderbirds.
