COQUITLAM — Marcus Lougheed beat the buzzer at the end of the third period to give the Prince George Spruce Kings a 4-3 win over the Coquitlam Express in Friday (Dec. 12) action in the BCHL.

Lougheed’s buzzer beater helped the 15-9-1 Spruce Kings extend their winning streak to five games, and their point streak to six games.

It was the Express who struck first as Georgios Stavrianeas beat Ryder Green to score the teddy bear goal at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Centre.

While Carter Hesselgrave restored parity at 17:20 of the opening period, Cole Bieksa – son of former Vancouver Canucks defenceman, Kevin Bieksa – put the Express back in front just 36 seconds later.

Prince George were able to escape a couple of messy sequences in the defensive zone, and at 17:16 of the second period, they tied the game as Ryan Wachtel tied the score at 2-2.

River Arnason and Carson Lesiuk traded third period goals to make it 3-3 before Lougheed called game with a one-timer after Ben Vreugdenhil won the faceoff to the left of Coquitlam’s Ryan Parker. Parker finished with 24 saves on 28 shots.

Ryder Green stopped 28 of 31 shots to pick up the win for Prince George, who sit second in the Coastal East Division, and third in the Coastal Conference.

The Spruce Kings head into Langley to play the 14-12 Rivermen at the George Preston Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
