PRINCE GEORGE — Prince George firefighters were kept busy on Boxing Day as they responded to a pair of structure fires.

The first fire in the Lombardy Mobile Home Park on Norwood Street was called in about 10:30 am Friday (Dec. 26) morning.

“The first arriving crew found a vacant single detached trailer, involved in heavy flame and with thick black smoke exiting from the windows,” a statement from the City of Prince George said. “The fire was deep seated and had caused significant structural damage, making firefighting efforts difficult.”

While it took firefighters a few hours to extinguish the blaze, no injuries were reported. It’s also not yet clear what caused this fire, though according to the city, damage is estimated to be at $20,000.

The second structure fire was called in about 9:00 p.m. last night at a house in the 1000 block of Douglas Street.

“Arriving crews found heavy smoke issuing from the rear of the residence and fire in the basement,” the city statement added. “A quick attack rapidly extinguished the fire.”

Two people were taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, and damage to the house is estimated at $150,000. Emergency Support Services were activated to provide assistance to the displaced residents, the city added.

While its not clear what sparked this fire, the city of Prince George says it appears to have been accidental in nature.
