PRINCE GEORGE — Kooper Gizowski was the superhero as his overtime winner lifted the Prince George Cougars to a 3-2 win over the Victoria Royals on Batman night at the CN Centre Sunday (Dec. 28) night.

Gizowski’s goal at 3:01 of the extra frame helped the Cougars snap a three game losing streak as they split their weekend series against the Royals, after Victoria took Saturday’s game 6-1.

Kayden Lemire and Jett Lajoie added goals in regulation, while goaltender Alex Levshyn stopped 22 of 24 shots for his sixth win of the season.

Lemire opened the scoring at 2:32 on Be a Superhero Night at the CN Centre as the Cougars wore special Batman-themed jerseys with warmup capes in support of the Children’s Miracle Network.

Victoria’s Nolan Stewart tied things up at 13:36, though Lajoie restored the Cougars lead in the final minute of the opening frame.

The Royals outshot the Cougars 8-3 in the middle frame and they were rewarded for their efforts when rookie Ludovic Perrault scored the only goal of the period to tie the score at 2-2.

Following a scoreless third, Gizowki played superhero as he wired a shot from the slot past Royals netminder Ethan Eskit, who stopped 17 of the 20 shots in a losing effort. Terik Parascak and Bauer Dumanski picked up the assists on the overtime winner.

Prince George improves to 23-10-1-0 to sit second in the Western Conference. They’re eight points up on the 16-9-4-3 Penticton Vees for top spot in the B.C. Division, though the Vees have two games in hand.

The Cougars will play their final game of 2025 in Kamloops on Tuesday (Dec. 30) against the 15-13-3-4 Blazers. Puck drop from the Sandman Centre is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
