PRINCE GEORGE – Many in Prince George are mourning the loss of Wesley Mitchell, who family and friends have confirmed has passed away. The well known community member and advocate is remembered by many for his involvement in a wide variety of community groups and efforts to help those around him.

“I think he was very influential, I think he was inspirational, I think he was outspoken for those that might not have had a voice,” said Mitchell’s friend Ron Gallo.

Mitchell’s involvement in Prince George including running for City Council, volunteering his time to help people out, and Gallo believes many will remember him for his drumming outside of UHNBC every week during the covid years to show support for healthcare workers and patients.

“I think perhaps the most resonating memory that most of the community will have is this young man that was out drumming in support of patients and health care workers during the covid times. Every week he was out there, and every week that drumming group grew larger and stronger and louder. And that kind of resonated for the next few years, even when we came back to a new norm, if you will. He was still out there drumming that support, providing spiritual inspiration, inspiration as a person for lifestyle choices,” Gallo said.

Gallo says Mitchell touched many peoples’ lives, saying it will take many in the community a long time to get over the pain of this loss. For Gallo personally, he spoke on how Mitchell embraced anyone and anything, reminiscing about how Mitchell and Gallo would cycle together, even though Mitchell himself wasn’t particularly big into cycling.

“He is going to be missed. He’s not my brother, but I’m going to miss him like a brother. He’s not a relation, but I’m going to miss him like all my relations. And those are those were his values, like we are all one,” Gallo said.
