Prince George SPCA hosting free Parvo Clinic
PRINCE GEORGE – Following multiple cases of Parvovirus in Prince George, the BC SPCA’s Spay and Neuter Clinic will be hosting a free vaccine clinic for vulnerable dogs and puppies in our community this Saturday. Parvo is a highly contagious, often deadly virus that leaves unvaccinated puppies and young dogs particularly vulnerable. The virus is extremely tough and can survive in the environment for months or even years. It spreads through direct contact with infected dogs or indirectly through contaminated feces, soil, food bowls, or even human shoes and clothing . The best protection against Parvo is vaccination.
“We are able to do puppies as young as six weeks old and that’s when the vaccine would start to be effective. So if you have a puppy that’s at least six weeks of age, you’re welcome to come on down. We’re also hoping to focus more on dogs under two years of age, or those that haven’t had a full series of vaccination because those would be dogs that we would consider most vulnerable.” said Senior Manager of Community Service with the BCSPCA Jamey Blair.
With Vaccines often being quite pricey a free vaccine clinic requires large donations of time, space and materials. All these factors came together to offer this weekend’s clinic free of charge.
