PRINCE GEORGE – Kopar Memorial Arena was packed Friday morning as over 1700 kids cheered on the Caribou Cougars as they took on the Vancouver Northeast Chiefs in BCEHL action for the annual SD57 Caribou Cougars game. The game is the biggest fundraiser of the year for PGSS with all proceeds from concession sales going right back to into wellness center and leaderships programs.

“We coordinate with all of the elementary schools that attend. It’s about 1700 kids that come every year and we put all of the funding from this back into programing at PGSS. So between the Wellness Center and Leadership, we split the proceeds because we plan this together. It’s months and months of work that go into this between RJ from the Caribou Cougars, our wellness center staff and the leadership staff. In addition we are really lucky in the city and the arena allow us to run the concession. After we’re done all the proceeds go directly back into programing for students at our school.” said Community School Coordinator for PGSS Stephanie Mills.

As for the game itself it was a high intensity game that saw multiple momentum shifts as a 1-1 tie after the first quickly turned into a 2 goal deficit by the end of the second. The third period saw both teams trade opportunities and goals with the Vancouver Northeast Chiefs scoring late to break a 5-5 deadlock and snatch the victory from the Cougars.
