Heritage Trail Upgrades Delayed

The bridge re-connecting Cottonwood Island with the rest of the Heritage River trail system is almost complete but work that was set to take place this year to shore up the banks of three sections of the trail system along the Nechako River has been put off for another year.

“I’d like to get work done as quickly as possible,” says Mayor Lyn Hall. “But I think it gives us an opportunity to do some planning. We had an open house 2017. We’ve got a lot of planning on the table for 2018.”

And that’s exactly what the City’s Parks Department has up its sleeve this year.

“In 2018, we’re working some design and approvals for three areas in particular: Cottonwood Island where much of the damage has occurred. So that’s to put riprap construction in. Another area is right over by Kiwanis picnic area and the next is by Brink and TDB.”
