FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A barbecue fundraiser in Fort St. John raised more than $40,000 for the families in Tumbler Ridge who are impacted by the mass shooting in the community earlier this month.

Fort St. John RCMP say more than $30,000 was donated by residents during a barbecue at the detachment on Saturday, Feb. 14.

In a news release issued Thursday (Feb. 19), Fort St. John RCMP say donations continued to come in afterward. As of Feb. 18, more than $40,000 was raised.

“I want to thank everyone who stepped up for this fundraiser. The generosity shown by our residents, volunteers, and businesses is truly remarkable,” Sgt. Jaime Moffat says.  “Your support will make a meaningful difference for the Tumbler Ridge community during a tragic time, and we are grateful to serve a region that stands together so strongly.”
