Erratic weather today reflective of entire month of unstable conditions
PRINCE GEORGE – Prince George was hit by a strong snowfall and blustery winds on the afternoon of February 26, but the snow appeared to leave as quickly as it came, as the thick flakes blowing almost sideways at times ended in around one hour. This type of weather has characterized an entire month of unstable weather, which Environment and Climate Change Canada is due to an unstable atmosphere above us.
“We’ve really got a bit of an unstable atmosphere over top of us at this point in time. That’s really enabled us to get some embedded convection going on with that snowfall, so we’re seeing some fairly intense snowfall rates at times over the Prince George area sort of embedded within a larger scale area of precipitation,” said Meteorologist Brian Proctor with Environment and Climate Change Canada.
“We’ve really been right on the storm track for the month of February, so right along the jet stream. So we have these impulses that have come in and moved south of us, allowing that colder air from the arctic spill south at times. But then the warmness comes back again as the whole pattern meanders a bit further north,” he continued.
