FORT ST JAMES — The College of New Caledonia (CNC) has confirmed its physical campus in Fort St. James will officially close on March 31, 2026.

“This was not an easy decision,” said a statement provided to CKPG News by CNC. “Fort St. James has been an important part of CNC’s history, and we recognize the deep connections the campus has had with the community over many years.”

Despite the campus closure, CNC says it’s not leaving Fort St. James or the surrounding communities. The College says it remains committed to providing education and training opportunities that meet the needs of local learners and employers.

Going forward, CNC says “programming will continue to be delivered in new and flexible ways, including”:

•             Community-based programming delivered in local facilities

•             Short-term and skills training aligned with local labour market needs

•             Partnership-based training with local employers and organizations

•             Online and blended learning opportunities that allow students to study closer to home

•             Mobile or cohort-based program delivery when there is sufficient local demand

CNC says it recently held a Community Forum in Fort St. James and “greatly appreciated the thoughtful feedback we received. The conversations with community members, employers and partners will help guide how we continue to deliver relevant programming in the region.”

The College also said its “commitment to learners in Fort St. James remains strong, and we will continue to work with the community to ensure education and training opportunities remain accessible.”
