PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Cougars did not allow a goal on retro weekend as they blanked the Wenatchee Wild for the second time in as many nights.

The Cougars won Saturday’s (March 14) rematch at CN Centre 5-0 to keep pace with the Kelowna Rockets in the Western Conference standings. Prince George (41-22-2-0) is fourth in the conference, one point back of third place Kelowna (38-19-6-3), who beat Kamloops last night.

Alexander Levshyn stopped all 25 shots he faced to record his first-ever WHL shutout, as the Cougars recorded their third shutout in a row against Wenatchee. Prince George also blanked the Wild 3-0 in November.

Kooper Gizowski opened the scoring for Prince George Saturday with the only goal of the first period, scored on the power play at 2:46. The Cougars then added to the scoresheet at 1:21 of the second through Bauer Dumanski, who also scored on the power play.

The goals kept flowing as both Dmitri Yakutsenak and Carson Carels scored highlight reel-worthy goals. Townes Kozicky slid a pass towards Yakutsenak, who then poked an airborne puck five-hole past Cal Conway at 5:38 after it was deflected up by a Wild defender.

About seven minutes later, Carels then undressed Conway with some nifty stickwork in front of the net as he tucked home his 20th of the season. The projected first-round NHL draft pick also added three primary assists to record his second four point night of the season.

Terik Parascak rounded out the scoring with a shorthanded goal at 19:40 to make it 5-0 after two periods, which is how the game ended following a scoreless third.

Conway stopped 20 of 25 shots in 40 minutes of action before he made way for Mark Djomo, who stopped all 12 shots he saw in the third period.

Next up for the Cougars is a Tuesday (March 17) game against the sixth place Kamloops Blazers (29-24-7-5) at CN Centre. It’s the final home game of the season as the Cougars play the ninth-place Victoria Royals (28-28-6-3) on the road next Friday and Saturday (March 20 and 21).
