TUMBLER RIDGE – Tumbler Ridge RCMP is responding to concerns in the community after residents found discarded firearms and started sharing rumours that linked them to the tragic event earlier this year.

The detachment explained that the 20 firearms were destroyed as part of regular procedures. These weapons were seized during investigations between 2016 and 2024, made unusable through an approved process, and are no longer considered firearms under the law.

Police say there is no link between the destroyed weapons and the tragedy that happened in February.

“All firearms related to the February tragedy are currently being held by the North District Major Crime Unit as part of their ongoing investigation,” said Sgt. Ian Rissanen, Interim Detachment Commander for Tumbler Ridge RCMP. “None of the firearms destroyed as part of this routine process are connected to that event.”
