Krause and Hemingway Named To Minister Panel On Poverty
Prince George City Councillor Murry Krause along with Dawn Hemingway, Chair of UNBC’s School of Social Work have been named as two of the 27 people on an Advisory Forum on Poverty Reduction. Poverty Reduction Minister Shane Simpson announced the panel Monday morning in Victoria. Hemingway will have an advanced role on the forum as she will co-chair alongside MLA for Vancouver-Kensington Mable Elmore. “I am grateful to have the opportunity to champion the voices of British Columbians through my role as co-chair in this advisory committee,” said Hemingway. The advisory forum is tasked with identifying causes of poverty and innovative approaches to poverty reduction, recommending priority actions, discussing ideas for poverty reduction, offering expertise, working with various communities and providing goals on legislation, timelines and targets. Currently, 678,000 British Columbians are living in poverty according to the Market Basket Measure.
