Prince George – The is Prince George Judo Club is calling on Prince George to come out and support the local judo community as the the Club hosts it’s annual open tournament this weekend at Duchess Park Secondary School. The event is a key competition for the judo club attracting more then 200 participants from across the region while showcasing Prince Georges talent.

“We’ve been doing this for over 35 years, and it’s really exciting. Being able to showcase the skills that these kids work so hard on, and being able to compete where we don’t have to necessarily travel as far as we always do is really good. So that was the spirit behind RPG and judo open.” said Prince George Judo Club spokesperson Kylie Holt.

The open will run over two days giving fans an opportunity to see the top competitors of all ages from across British Columbia.

“The age groups that we have fighting this weekend are starting all the way from nine up. So all of our our kids are going to be fighting on the first night, which is the April 10th and they go from 5:05 p.m. to 8 p.m. and then the next day we have our adults, which is, a bit of a mix.” said Holt.

As for the competitors, they were hard at work Thursday hitting the mat preparing to put on the best performance they can this weekend against high-quality competition.

“We practice our throws and we practice fighting. I hope that we win and I win one or more of my matches.” said Prince George Judo Club student Nathan Vanderstar.
