PRINCE GEORGE, BC- The Aquatic Centre, a facility that has been around Prince George since December of 1998 has had its impacts on children and parents alike. Whether it was where you first learned to swim, or had a birthday party with your friends, memories were built at this pool. The City of Prince George announced in October of 2025, that this landmark would be getting renovations to further improve the facility.

But the City of Prince George underestimated the renovations that needed to take place at the Aquatic Centre. They closed the facility in January of 2026, with a closure of two years, not allowing the pool to open back up until January of 2028. The City stated that “The CM immediately performed a constructability review of the plans and specifications as well as destructive testing inside and outside of the building.”

With these findings between the collaboration it was found that “Destructive testing resulted in additional findings that showed further issues not visible from the surface (e.g., water damage, corrosion, mold) that needed to be added and/or clarified to the drawings and specifications.”

With these problems hiding underwater, The City of Prince George reviewed their program and was able to find a new way to progress the renovation project in a way that benefits the people of Prince George. The renovation project is estimated at about 37 million from the City of Prince George.
