PG Senior Lacrosse Association returns with special weekend double header

PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Senior Lacrosse Association (PGSLA) is excited to announce it is returning for another season, starting with a special weekend double header taking place on May 1 and May 2.

“It’s an exciting game, it’s the fastest game on two feet,” said PGSLA Commissioner Don Wittmeier.

Friday’s game will see the Devils take on the Bandits, with Wittmeier noting the Devils are a powerhouse not just in the PGSLA, but across the entire province, as they are a multi-time PGSLA Champion, and also finished second in provincials last season. This year is also seeing a change to the league, as teams from Quesnel and Mackenzie will not be returning.

“Unfortunately this year, Quesnel is not in it and Mackenzie’s not in it, unfortunately numbers-wise, but they’re hoping to come back next year,” Wittmeier said.

It’s a league with a wide variety of players, welcoming a mix of all ages and skill levels to create a lacrosse community for everyone.

“We have players that have played down in Vancouver that have come back to Prince George to play again. We have a junior team in Prince George, and the juniors are among the three teams, so each team is a variety of the older guys and younger guys, so a nice mix,” Wittmeier said.

Normally the team plays in Kopar Memorial Arena, but because of the Spruce Kings’ success Kopar is unavailable for lacrosse, so games will take place at Kin 2 in the meantime. The location of the games is subject to change, but Wittmeier adds the schedule will remain consistent, with games planned for Monday and Wednesday evenings at 8:00 p.m. If you’d like to stay up to date with the league, or learn more, you can visit its website HERE.
