Copper cable thefts lead to widespread TELUS outage in northwest B.C.
PRINCE GEORGE — A fibre cut is disrupting Internet, TV, home phone and wireless services for some TELUS customers in Northwest British Columbia, including Masset, Prince Rupert, Terrace, Hazelton, Smithers, and Burns Lake.
TELUS, in a statement, says that the damages was caused by vandals attempting to steal copper cables. Technicians are on site, and are bringing in specialized equipment to repair the extensive damage caused by the vandals, and will work to restore service as quickly as possible.
9-1-1 services remain available through a TELUS backup system and landline service is available to some customers in the affected communities.
