Church turns parking lot into sanctuary
PRINCE GEORGE – A fire damaged part of Fort George Baptist Church on the evening of May 1, leaving the congregation without a sanctuary but still able to hold Sunday services.
Prince George Fire Rescue arrived at the church near 15th Avenue and Central Street around 6:30 p.m. They saw heavy smoke and flames coming from one side of the building. Firefighters stopped the fire from spreading. No one was hurt. The damage is estimated at $150,000.
Since the sanctuary was off limits and there was no space available for about 200 people, church leaders quickly decided to hold services outside.
