PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Spruce Kings have strengthened their roster for the future, announcing the commitment of forward Charles Hawthornthwaite for the 2026-27 British Columbia Hockey League season.

The 18-year-old forward from Vaudreuil, Quebec, joins the Spruce Kings after spending the past two seasons with the Valleyfield Braves of the Quebec Junior Hockey League (QJHL), where he established himself as a reliable offensive contributor and a responsible two-way player.

Standing 5-foot-8 and weighing 179 pounds, Hawthornthwaite is coming off an impressive campaign with the Braves. In 33 regular-season games last season, he recorded 13 goals and 19 assists for 32 points, showcasing his ability to contribute offensively while maintaining consistency throughout the season.

His strong play also earned him an opportunity on the international stage. Hawthornthwaite represented Team Canada East at the World Junior A Challenge, a prestigious tournament featuring some of the top junior hockey players from around the globe. He appeared in five games during the event and scored one goal while helping Canada East compete against elite international competition.

Spruce Kings General Manager Mike Hawes said the organization is excited about what Hawthornthwaite will bring to the team both offensively and defensively.

“Charles is a hardworking player in every area of the game,” said Hawes. “He is a skilled player who will elevate our offense while also being very responsible in other areas. We’re excited that we were able to add him to our program.”

The addition comes as the Spruce Kings continue building toward returning to contention in the BCHL. The club has been active in recruiting players who can make an impact at both ends of the ice, and Hawthornthwaite’s resume suggests he fits that mold.

For Hawthornthwaite, the decision to join the Spruce Kings was an easy one.

“I’m very happy to become a Spruce King,” he said. “I thought I couldn’t let go of this opportunity and to be a part of such a great organization. Also, I know we’re aspiring to be a contending team again so I’m excited to see my new teammates and staff and build something special.”

His commitment gives the Spruce Kings another skilled forward with valuable junior hockey experience and a proven ability to produce offensively. The experience gained through both league play in Quebec and international competition should help ease his transition to the BCHL when he arrives in Prince George.

As preparations continue for the 2026-27 season, the Spruce Kings are hopeful Hawthornthwaite can become an important piece of the team’s future. With a reputation for hard work, offensive skill and responsible play away from the puck, the Quebec native is expected to be a welcome addition to the lineup as Prince George looks to re-establish itself among the BCHL’s top contenders.
