PRINCE GEORGE — The City of Prince George has recognized four residents for their outstanding contributions to the community, presenting the inaugural Medal of Excellence and Good Citizenship at a ceremony held June 23.

Elder Darlene McIntosh, Davy Greenless, David Mothus and Carol Gass were awarded their medals at City Hall Tuesday. The new civic honour celebrates individuals who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to improving quality of life in Prince George. Recipients are selected based on achievements in volunteerism, philanthropy, professional work, acts of courage and generosity, or excellence in a particular field, along with leadership that inspires lasting, positive change.

The selection process began earlier this year, when 20 nomination packages were submitted. A five-member adjudication committee led by the Prince George Community Foundation independently reviewed and scored each nomination according to the award criteria. The committee then met to determine the final list of recipients, which was forwarded to city council for approval in a closed meeting.

Each recipient received a commemorative medal and matching lapel pin, along with a $1,000 donation made in their name to the David Douglas Botanical Garden Society. The donations will be recognized with a plaque at the garden.
