Excavator stolen and burned near Fraser River, RCMP investigating

The RCMP have not given out any details regarding the suspects or possible motive. The investigation is still going on.

Investigators are still working to determine exactly what took place, including how the excavator was taken and why it was set alight. The police are also attempting to put together a timeline and to identify anyone who may have been involved.

The event occurred in College Heights, a residential district on the west side of Prince George. Since many people use the greenbelt and the trails close to the Fraser River, someone might have noticed something was amiss before the excavator was discovered.

The police are urging anybody who was in the area at that time to come forward, and they are particularly interested in hearing from people who noticed anything out of the ordinary concerning heavy machinery, vehicles close to the greenbelt, or signs of smoke or fire. Even minor details might assist the investigation, and accounts from witnesses, along with photos, videos, or dash camera footage taken in the area, could be useful in working out what took place.

There can be serious financial losses as a result of losing equipment of this kind. It is not only the cost of the machine but also the possible delays affecting construction projects which depend on special equipment.

The police have not stated how severely the excavator was damaged or whether it can be repaired. Meanwhile, no injuries have been reported.
