Category 2 and 3 open fire to be prohibited for parts of the Prince George Fire Centre
PRINCE GEORGE — The BC Wildfire Service has implemented a prohibition on Category 2 and Category 3 open burning across the Stuart Nechako Forest District, also known as the VanJam Fire Zone, as wildfire risk remains a concern across the region.
The ban takes effect at 12 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20 and will remain in place until 12 p.m. Oct. 15, 2026, unless rescinded earlier. Existing Category 2 and Category 3 fires were required to be fully extinguished by the noon deadline.
The prohibition applies throughout the Vanderhoof and Fort St. James fire zones outside municipal boundaries, as well as certain Crown land areas located within municipalities, including provincial parks, recreation sites, ecological reserves, wildlife management areas and private managed forest lands.
