Centre-right rivalry emerges as B.C. Conservatives continue to fracture
VICTORIA — The ongoing turmoil within the B.C. Conservative Party is creating a political opening for competing centre-right movements, with both Centre BC leader Mike Bernier and Independent MLA Peter Milobar making the case that they represent the future alternative to Premier David Eby’s NDP government.
The latest shakeup came with another Conservative MLA departure, bringing the number of defectors to seven and raising fresh questions about leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay’s ability to hold the party together.
Bernier, a former B.C. Liberal cabinet minister and current leader of Centre BC, said the exodus reflects growing dissatisfaction with the direction of the Conservatives.
